JUST IN : NLC, TUC suspend planned protest in Abuja, direct workers to end strike

  The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have suspended their planned protest in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and directed workers under the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to return to work with immediate effect. The decision followed a meeting between labour leaders, the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, and members of the Senate Committee on the FCT. The meeting, which commenced late on Monday and extended into the early hours of Tuesday, resulted in an agreement that led to the suspension of the protest and the resumption of normal activities across FCTA offices. The development may bring an end to a dispute that originated from an industrial action by FCTA workers over unresolved labour and welfare issues.   • British boxer Anthony Joshua has been injured, with two others killed, in a car crash in Nigeria -  here's what we know so far

  • Local police said  that Joshua has been taken to hospital alongside other injured people - they earlier said he suffered minor injuries but is "fine"

  • The accident happened on the Ogun–Lagos state expressway earlier on Monday; an eyewitness says two vehicles were involved in the crash





  • The 36-year-old heavyweight has family roots in Sagamu, a town in Ogun State, Nigeria

    • Local authorities (Ogun State Police and the FRSC) are investigating the cause of the collision.  
    • Public figures, including former Nigerian Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, have expressed sympathy for Joshua and condolences to the families of the victims.  
    • Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, has acknowledged the incident and said efforts are underway to contact him directly.
